the very first and most extensive, detailed, and specialized hinge notebook I have made yet: a notebook you can bring alongside your storm weather outings, that CAN handle it. made water-resistant by using a special build and layer technique using secondhand rite in the rain paper, a clear plastic material adhered to the booklet on the outside and inside the spine (in case water drips into that area), and a skin-safe PROTECTACLEAR coat.
This item is heavy, weighing about 1.7 lbs and consists of a complete set including three booklets; each custom made to the hinge with their own set of hooks and o-rings. 120 pages in each booklet. also includes a vintage metal mechanical pencil and vintage led included to refill. although water resistant, please still wipe dry if possible and avoid letting water dry directly on the metal, even though it should be fine.
notebook made from secondhand: hinge, legal pad, vintage file folders, steel wire, brown paper bags, linen paper
and: shock cord, heat shrink tubing, rubber o rings, glue, stainless steel o rings, metal grommets
These are made by creating custom inserts for the hinge that allow the booklet to wrap and hook into place inside the hinge, moving with the hinge as it opens and closes. The booklet is made considering page numbers, size, and layering material.
This is a perfect bind using mull cloth and archival book glue, made into a semi-hardcover booklet that fits perfectly inside the hinge, pressed so the paper in the booklet can absorb some of the extra space left by the elastic and grommets, and stays there until you want to refill/exchange it. I try to include as many pages as possible while not overloading, but this took extra time as I was working with a new paper type, and each paper has a different weight and thus slightly different thicknesses. four layers of paper and mull cloth make up the cover and allow the booklet to have integrity; this helps when metal and paper meet. the hinge edges are sanded down to limit friction, fraying, and to make it smooth to the touch.

items are handmade, please allow for uniqueness. i work with metal and paper, and sometimes the booklets get some machine oil from the hinge onto the spine/booklet; this does not affect utility and is unavoidable, as these are still industrial materials and hinges are supposed to have a little lubricant inside the moving parts.
